What's Going on so Far...

The City of Niagara Falls has established an 1812-2012 Task Force whose goals are:

  • To identify opportunities for commemorative initiatives relating to the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 in Niagara Falls.
  • To coordinate events and activities surrounding the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 in Niagara Falls.
  • To create a lasting legacy of the War of 1812 within the City of Niagara Falls.
  • To identify funding opportunities in order to carry out 2012-2014 commemorative events in Niagara Falls, in order to minimize the costs to the City of Niagara Falls.
  • To create lasting partnerships with complimentary organizations within the City of Niagara Falls, including existing heritage organizations, the business community and the Regional, Provincial and Federal governments.
  • To be inclusive in its membership. To recruit members to sit on the Task Force taking into account the skills and backgrounds of the members as well as the skills required to make up an effective Task Force.
  • To provide a centralized and coordinated management system to ensure the success of events and activities relating to the City of Niagara Falls' commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812.

The Task Force is a sub-committee of the Niagara Falls Board of Museums, endorsed by City Council and made up of representatives from a number of community organizations as well as community members-at-large

In September 2006, the 1812-2012 Task Force held a Public Workshop...

Local residents were asked to share their ideas of how we should commemorate this milestone anniversary, with the focus of activities relating to the following four categories:

1. Historical Appreciation / Education

2. Marketing and Promotions

3. Infrastructure and Legacy

4. Arts and Culture / Festivals and Events

The results from the Public Workshop are available for you to peruse by clicking on this link.
